First launch - terminal steps

Windows builds run with a double-click. On Linux and macOS you will usually need a quick terminal session in the folder where you extracted the game.

How to run Take1 on Linux or macOS
  1. Open a terminal inside the game folder (right-click the folder in your file manager and choose Open in Terminal, or cd into it).
  2. Make the game executable: chmod +x ./Take1
  3. Start the game: ./Take1
Game says .NET is missing? Install the runtime

Install the .NET runtime version shown in the error (usually 8.0), then run ./Take1 again.

Linux Mint (apt)
sudo apt update
sudo apt install dotnet-runtime-8.0

Mint uses the same packages as Ubuntu. If 8.0 is unavailable, try dotnet-runtime-6.0.

Ubuntu (apt)
sudo apt update
sudo apt install dotnet-runtime-8.0

On older Ubuntu releases, enable the Microsoft package feed first, or install dotnet-runtime-6.0 if that is what the error requests.

Fedora (dnf)
sudo dnf install dotnet-runtime-8.0
Other Linux distros
  • Debian / Pop!_OS / elementary (apt): sudo apt install dotnet-runtime-8.0
  • Arch / Manjaro / Steam Deck (pacman): sudo pacman -S dotnet-runtime
  • openSUSE (zypper): sudo zypper install dotnet-runtime-8.0

Match the runtime major version to the error message. When in doubt, see dotnet.microsoft.com/download and pick your OS.

macOS - Intel (x64)

Download and install the .NET 8 Runtime for macOS x64 from Microsoft, or with Homebrew:

brew install --cask dotnet-runtime@8

Then return to the game folder and run ./Take1 again.

macOS - Apple Silicon (ARM64)

Download and install the .NET 8 Runtime for macOS Arm64 from Microsoft, or with Homebrew:

brew install --cask dotnet-runtime@8

Pick the build that matches your Mac (M1/M2/M3). Then run ./Take1 from the game folder.

All builds are hosted in our Synology shared folder. The manual stays on-site for a one-click PDF grab.

Frequently asked

Quick answers

Is it really free?

Yes. It's a non-commercial tribute remake. No microtransactions, no upsells, no ads. The cinema sign on the lot is not for sale.

Will there be a Steam release?

Not on the Steam store - this is a fan tribute. But the Steam Deck binary works perfectly via Desktop Mode and Steam ROM Manager.

I'm on an older OS. Can I still play?

Windows 7/8 and macOS 10.13+ usually work - they're just not officially supported. Worst case, the Linux build runs almost anywhere.

Where do I report a bug?

The Continuity Department keeps a logbook in the studio Bulletin. We read every entry. Repro steps appreciated.
